Strengthening a person’s resources to improve their long term use. How can you use the range of an innate ability to help make the mind body concept a more tangible thing a person can use?

The essence of this approach is using a resource whose ranges the person feels comfortable and confident with. This idea of feeling comfortable with a resource may facilitate a lot of relatively easy experimentation and by using the same resource initially it is not too confusing for the person. This is opposite to doing these mind body trials with numerous resource ranges. I am simply saying, whatever the person feels most comfortable emotionally with using.
For example:
The person may feel most comfortable repeatedly doing the following:
A visually imagined windmill with the blades turning. The range of blade movement might be the blades turning very slowly, to almost being stopped and the opposite to moving extremely rapidly. Being able to easily go back and forth.
Another example:
A visually imagined blue colour ranging from a very faint bluish tinge to a bright intense blue that is almost painful to imagine. Being able to go back and forth.
In the clinic you want to achieve a very reliable wide range of an innate ability. The essence is that it doesn’t matter so much as to what the innate ability is, but that you have tested the person can access the ranges accurately and quickly. In other words, there is a quick onset and offset of the ranges. Goes back and forth. The person needs to be aware of the range differences. This is quite important.
The next question is:
How do you make a connection between the ranges and the mind body concept?
The emphasis here is trying to establish mind-body control by having tangible results and not just one person simply `telling the other person’ without tangible proof they are gaining more mind-body control.
The next stage is when the person themselves triggers the different ranges in the clinic.The cues the person uses to trigger the different ranges becomes smaller and smaller. It goes from word descriptions to smaller and smaller cues that on the surface would give no hint as to what resource is being triggered. You could say a type of coding. With the testing the speed of changing the ranges back and forth becomes quicker and quicker with the repeated trials.
Up until this point, there has been no effort to discuss strengthening the person’s mind-body connection. This point is reached when the certainty of the person achieving the back and forth range response is as close to being `100% chance of success as possible.
Once the different ranges can be reliably achieved and only then, there is presented a hypothetical construct of what is happening in the mind as to how this is actually happening. There is an emphasis with this approach on the dynamic flow of information and energy between different parts of the brain. This is really important. The emphasis on the word dynamic.
For example:
You could say that you are gaining more control of the light blue because you are learning to put to the side all the parts of the brain that would be very active when you imagine the intense blue. The person is having a tangible result.
There are a multitude of analogies you could present. You just need to be sure the person has success when these analogies are presented. This is where the previous clinic testing is relevant.
The next emphasis is that the person is learning how to gain more control of their mind- body.
Explain it is only hypothetical and we will be exploring the best way to better access your mind and body connections as every person will have varying levels of differences. In other words our goal is for you to have more control with mind body connections. This is especially the case long term with your chronic pain management. What we are doing is a good training method to train you to get better access to your mind body control.
There needs to be some type of logic that the person can accept as being a reasonable explanation as to why mind and body connections will improve with this training. It is unwise to assume the logic you present for accessing mind body control is going to be accepted by the person.
Designing a presentation which uses a number of different types of logic, may offer the best chance that one or more may be accepted as being a reasonable explanation of your mind-body mechanism.
Explain to the person we are determining which types of logic feels better for you as everyone can have differences in their acceptance.
The fundamental principle is to make the person’s mind-body connection a more concrete, tangible thing. This is even when the person knows full well it probably is not really the way it works. In other words the emphasis is on `proving the mechanism in your brain’ by having the person experience tangible and more concrete results.

- Eyes open may change the meaning to clients. Always be aware of the large difference between eyes open and eyes closed. Belief may be stronger if client experiences a visual with `eyes open.’
- Imagined means the persons’ visualisation is of something which is not real, it is a `figment of their imagination.’
- A reader may think that a visual appearing near/ distant should be on the same line. The way each of these submodalities might be used however may be quite different. You may want to combine in a meaningful way an imagined object coming nearer and that imagined object moving into the distance. Thus two distinct usages of each of those submodalities may be combined in such a way to enhance the effectiveness of each of the individual submodalities.
- Many times there are no clear boundaries between the categories. It is only meant to be a rough classification. Every person would have their own list which may differ considerably from this list.
