My Background

My name is Eugene

I am a retired dentist from Australia and also have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.

I have always had a strong academic interest in trying to understand mind-body techniques used in a wide variety of different approaches to stress and pain management and why they work at all. Thus, I spent a great deal of time looking for common denominators used with approaches such as suggestibility techniques, persuasion techniques, placebos, hypnosis, meditation, brain washing, crowd hysteria, and the list goes on.

The reason for this interest was that I ran a hypnosis group for two and a half years. I had previously spent 2 years learning from at that time a well known American hypnotist. I always made it clear with the group that my interest was always researching different things and trying to understand how ‘hypnosis- whatever this term means’, actually works. I then did my Psychology degree and then my life interest in investigating other mind-body approaches.

One of the issues with the mind-body studies, I suppose you can say I was obsessed with, was the same as with my dentistry. How can you have something last the longest possible period of time? From dentistry it is simple to get something to last two or three years. To get something to last longer requires a stronger understanding of underlying anatomy, physiology, and mechanics.

This dental approach oftentimes turned out to be a very different way of designing restorations.

I would constantly ask with my mind-body studies, “How can I have this effect last the longest period of time and what if it fails, what then?” I felt this approach may give insights that short term thinking may not.
